I just received the "weekly update" letter from ADJC, and noted the usual upbeat conversation relating to the athletic teams (men's and women's). The exciting part, though, was his mention of the Carnegie Foundation elevating KSU to "R 1" (Tier !) status in their classifications of American universities. Not being that familiar with academe in general, I'm curious what others think on how big of a deal this is for KSU going into the future. Is Carnegie the only "rating agency" that classifies universitites, or are there other groups that do as well. I seems like the only time it comes up much is when I have been on another universities fanboards (like KU/PhogNet) and any time they talk about KSU it is always that we are a Tier 2 university. So other than "bragging rights," is there any real benefit to KSU alumni in holding this distinction?
