I can understand why Bill may have nixed the succession plan if it were after hearing those words from FADJC in a heated meeting between the two. On the other hand, those words, by FADJC, could somewhat be justified, to an extent, if they were uttered in an emotional response to Coach Snyder after he just backed out of the succession plan. Think about the battle of wills going on at the time with FADJC. Currie wanted Snyder gone and was even willing to hire candidates that he thought Bill would sign off on, such as BV and JL. So the rejection reason was either he truly wasn't ready to retire, which he should have plainly stated, or he truly did want Sean to succeed him. Either way this thing went off the rails due to the apparent "toxic" relationship between the two. I would just like to know if Coach was ever on board with any succession plan or was staunchly against them from the beginning? I am speculating that BV backed out due to not being convinced that Coach was completely on board or the retirement timeline was too vaugue. According to the report yesterday, the JL agreement was apparently nixed by Coach, and the reason given was that he wanted Sean to succeed him. If that were the case, then that is where my support ends for Coach, because well.....it is an absurd option! However, I can appreciate Coach's willingness to stand up for himself and not be forced out, if that indeed was going on, or what he felt was happening.
Having said that, IMHO Coach should have retired under his own terms 2-3 years ago. But here we are now in a potentially ugly ending to his esteemed and respected career. Hopefully, he does the right thing, while it can still loosely be considered "his terms"
