This seems almost eerily similar to the 1997 season. After a successful 1996/2014 season with more of a pocket passer QB than we are typically used to (Kavanaugh/Waters) who was throwing to a record shattering Lockett WR in his senior year. Lost to a very good west coast team in a higher tier bowl game. Our offensive coordinator was Dana Dimel. Both the 96 and 14 teams were in the top 10 late in the season but lost to a higher ranked team on the road. Most people thought we would have nothing coming back into 1997 season offensive skills wise (losing the faster "scatback" of a RB in Marlon Charles/Robinson, losing Lockett, QB gone, etc.) We had a stud Freshman QB (Beasley, yes I know he was going to be a Sophomore but you get the point). We find a late steal of a QB with freakish athletic ability who comes in and wins the starting job (looking ahead a bit here).
Obviously not saying things will end the same as they did in 1997, but it's interesting to look at.
