Working on some basketball recruiting tidbits tonight. The night ended up with a couple of updates that will be coming on the site in the morning.
But I wanted to share a few things here from the calls/texts/DMs I have/had made tonight.
*Against what I had begun to believe and relayed to Fitz, the Wildcats are still in on Raynere Thornton. More in the morning on him.
*Hutchinson contacts of mine said it is a long shot for K-State on Juiston because of the schools that are involved. I will keep trying to get with him or a coach on the Hutch CC staff. And that could be tough based on what I have been told by another Rivals.com basketball recruiting person.
“I’ll give you Eck’s number if you don’t mind getting yelled at and hung up on. That’s if he answers you. If he doesn’t, he might text you back and cuss you out if you leave a message.”
*About Makol Mawein, I was told this about him:
“I thought Mawein had a chance when he was in high school. K-State is competing with Iona and St. Bonaventure for a kid Utah dumped as soon as possible. That is probably not a good sign”
*Mamoudou Diarra -- working to find a way to contact him, his “handlers” or any coaches tied to him. Even contacts around the Rivals network haven’t offered much help and some of them are looking for a way to contact him too.
I have even reached out to Levi Stockard to see if he can help me though Diarra’s old AAU program – the same one that Stockard played on.
*Mark Smith – I have tried to text him and still no response. Multiple calls (both showing my number and *67 to not show it) go to voice mail that is full and can’t accept any more messages. We will keep after him to see if he can share his thoughts on his visit to Manhattan, but again, I do not think it is very likely he ends up in Manhattan with Illinois and Missouri hard after him in addition to the latest interest/offers from Kentucky and Michigan State.
