As a huge K-State fan & old alumni the last few years in my mind are very disturbing, when you look around in our conference and see how rapidly schools like Baylor & Iowa State have rapidly made sweeping changes in their FB & BB programs, while we simply sit back & take it.
Baylor did a massive face lift to their BB program wins a National Championship & they won't be far off the same beat this year.
They flipped their football program in just one year of being a contender.
Iowa State finished dead last, last year in Basketball (2-22, no wins in conference) and made a ranked Memphis team look mediocre this week, ISU is still undefeated. Very impressive, very well coached.
Both schools FB programs have been dominating us the last few years & our coaches take it lightly with the same line: "We got to get better." No the coaching has got to get better with more aggressive play calling in both sports.
Even Kansas beats Texas in Austin, while we lolly gag the 2nd half not even managing 70 yards passing the entire game to a team that lost 5 straight games without a healthy QB.
That's a major red flag that even Kansas is stepping up their game, while it seems we flutter it seems the last couple of games in FB every year. The KU coaching change in the end may at some point end up biting us in the ass. Then we punt in our bowl games, because we are so lax in recruiting QB's, we are left with QB's that are always never ready to step into a game, lead & execute. Yesterday with a QB with a 2-7 starting record. What do we have to look forward to in our bowl game? 70 yards of passing?
ALL 3 OF THESE SCHOOLS MADE KEY COACHING CHANGES & RAPIDLY CHANGED THE CULTURE OF THEIR OWN FAILURES.
Messingham's offensive results this year EXACTLY matches the same scoring average out put as when Iowa State fired him. Weber's offense I'm not sure what you call. His mentality is thinking you win all your games by defense, the hope we can make a lot of 3's, when the last game I watched we didn't make one until well into the 2nd half. On the flip side we refuse to guard the 3.
What's scary here is we have an AD & FB Head Coach too scared to change the OC in fear of hurting friendships & the deal with Weber I'll never understand. Just how SOFT can you get? Even at the expense of bowing to the teams I despise the most, or reducing our stadium to a bunch of empty seats, then blaming us fans for your own lack of having a pair of balls. B.S. Take responsibility. I know how ultra conservative K-State is about making any kind of change about anything, but now I understand why we will NEVER win a National Championship in my life time if ever. When you fiddle fart around and do nothing to help the university, then you are just as much the problem. These kids (players) deserve better & our fans do too. In the end it's killing our recruiting.
I pray to God we get a new President that knows how to properly represent & promote our university so these enrollment numbers get turned around. No one will like it, but my suggestion would be to offer optional two year courses, that Kansas families can afford & might consider a better bargain than a JUCO or Tech School. They are rotting our core & we need to fight back, or revert back. We should be promoting our Kansas H.S.'s better and giving all surrounding states the in-state tuition. It seems Arkansas is eating our lunch too. Whoever this next President is better be doing more than simply collecting a pay check. Our university is on the line IMO, while others pass us by.
