I look at our QB situation as QB 1A and QB 1B (and IMHO I think most K-State fans do too) but until Delton proves me wrong....i'm skeptical at how successful Delton can be when teams scheme to slow him down by stacking the box or play much more closer to the LOS....which is what most Big 12 teams + Miss St are going to do if they can't slow him down in their normal defense set first.
Delton didn't have a lot of success throwing the ball 20+ yards down the field and outside of a massive defensive breakdown by OU the first play of the game(when Barnes ripped off that huge TD run)...the RBs didn't have much big play success in the Big 12 with Delton at QB either.
If the new offensive philosophy involves spreading the ball around more and getting it into the hands of playmakers (our new staff and our recruiting seem to be pointing to that) then Thompson seems like the much better option with Delton still getting a relevant amount of snaps.
If Barnes is the most likely going to be best player on our offense....Thompson also gives him and the OL a much better chance at being successful on the ground while also giving us a higher probability of keeping our starting QB healthy for an entire season.
