This has been well documented prior to this year, but he's struggled against good defenses. If you isolate his career against Auburn, LSU, SEC title, and playoffs, he completes about 50% of his passes for ~150 yards. Those numbers would look worse if not for a big day against Auburn in '16.
The difference is now he has the greatest offensive coach in college football. He still only put up 235 yards with 2 turnovers (should have been 3) against UT. Also, 80% of those passing yards were either wide open WR's thanks to Lincoln and/or CeeDee Lamb running after the catch. It felt very similar to his first two years. He wasn't as effective against a better defense and Lincoln made him look better than he is. Not to mention, OU basically used him as a RB and used trick plays to create wide-open WR's for the last 3 quarters.
Long story short, he's going to thrive in OU's system. He'll get an invite to New York. But I have no idea how he's going to win two straight against Ohio State, Clemson, or Bama when they have a month to prepare. If I was an OU fan, I left the Cotton Bowl Saturday thinking the defense better hold teams to the low 20's in the playoffs or it's not happening.
