We won the game. I'm not really sure how but we did. I agree with most everybody that our offense and offensive play calling was horrid. Our offensive line is weak. Our QB while adequate does appear to be a backup. But I'm happy he is not forcing things and turning the ball over.
I was in the camp of 8 to 9 wins at the start of this season even when we knew that Ertz was gone. After yesterday, 6 certainly seems more likely. Very thankful right now to be 3-0. Something we have to remember is that we will get better. I'm not sure how much but we have 2 weeks to get better, make some changes, develop different game plans etc.
I can't help but think that our play calling was tentative due to some fear of losing Hubener. It just seemed to me that he wasn't as aggressive with his legs and was maybe told not to be. Who knows.
I think it's gonna be important to light a fire under the offensive lines ass. Lean on Silmon and Warmack (where was he yesterday) and control the clock. We need tp reevaluate how beneficial our fullback sets are and of course the "wildcat" formation. Hubener needs to throw slants and outs every day until his receivers learn to catch his passes. He also needs to learn to slide because he will have to carry the ball some too. Our defense was on the field way too much yesterday.
We have had some crappy performances in the past and rebounded nicely in the following weeks. Hopefully that happens this year. We are 3-0 now. And that's great. If we can lean on our special teams, and defense and control the clock maybe we can still get to 8 wins. Bill has to get these guys to do better. We got some young guys with some talent. Let's hope they have the mental toughness to get better and our coaches have the leadership to guide them that way.
Overall. Yesterday was disappointing, but damn. I'm just glad we won.
