I love the kid's moxie on special teams but I just don't see the quickness and speed that maximizes the style of D we play BUT Fitz predicts he will be a playmaker and that is encouraging. Fitz is closer to the team than myself of course and my remaining source is very careful to not talk about individual players since I got him in trouble a couple years ago. So with that being said a couple questions to sate my curiosity and whet my appetite for having a D that can shut down the conference power OU.
How fast is Trent really? He walked on with some accolades on here from people who saw him in HS saying he was a great all around athlete so I am going to guess there were some track times etc to work off of.
How big is he now? they list him at 224 but that as we know per the odd KSU policy of never adjusting some player's hts and wts is possibly not correct. OU thinks they have found their next superstar running back and the thing OU has always been able to do that separates them from the rest of the league is run the ball down your throat with enough consistency that they can kill you with the long ball if you have to pull your safeties up in run support. Having a guy in the middle who can stuff the run would be huge. Watching him in the longest stint he had at TCU he was perfect on positioning from what I could tell but when a OL got on him he was unable to get separation.
His drops on pass plays were really nice but Moore he was not when the ball was in the air.
However, another thread mentioned how the game changes with experience for players and maybe that is the improvement we see this year.
At worst I still see him as a Blake Slaughter type player and maybe with a new guy like Patton on the outside that is what you need this year. Getting Patton in the right place and coaching him on the field so he can give us what we got from Lee would be a big plus for this D in handling the spreads.
Sidebar: Xavier Phillips is intriguing. A Baylor grad I know who follows them closely thinks he is damaged goods physically but that if he were not would be an imposing Mike.
