Are NU, Mizzou, CU & aTm really better off now than they were 12 years ago? Do they have more money? Yes, but are their athletic depts better off now than they were 12 years ago? Mizzou was competing for conference championships in football a couple of years before they left. Now look at them. NU was 1 second away from beating UT in the conference champ in 2009 & they're a complete after-thought now.
When did people decide that more money = more success? Let's look at South Carolina. By voting for UT & OU to join the conference, it sounds like Bama & Auburn could move to the east division. South Carolina now has UGA, UF, Bama, & Auburn in their division & they play Clemson every year. That's 5 losses immediately vs voting "No" and possibly only looking at 3 losses every year. Kentucky, Vandy, Ole Miss, Miss State, Arky & Mizzou are now in the same boat as South Carolina. You already have the money, so why make it more difficult for you to win?
This makes me sad on so many levels. I graduated from KSU, so did my sister, brother in law, wife went to KSU, I have two nieces at KSU, & was really hoping that both my daughters would go there. If this really happens, then they won't get to experience a KSU gameday (anymore) the way it is. I've had season tickets since 1995. We took my oldest daughter to a KSU home game when she was 7 weeks old & to think that the KSU that I love & am passionate about could be reduced to a 15k enrollment, just breaks my heart.
