White House counsel Don McGahn has reportedly cooperated extensively with special counsel Robert Mueller in his obstruction of justice probe, even filling investigators in on certain episodes about President Trump they would have otherwise been unaware of, The New York Times reports. Several sources cited in the report say McGahn took part in at least three voluntary interviews with Mueller’s team in which he detailed Trump’s frustration with the Russia investigation and the ways in which the president sought to have McGahn respond to it. He also reportedly provided information on Trump’s behavior in regards to the firing of former FBI director James Comey, as well as the president’s reported attempts to have Mueller fired. McGahn reportedly decided to fully cooperate with Mueller because he and his lawyer, William Burck, feared Trump may have been hoping McGahn would end up taking the blame for any possible obstruction of justice charges.
