Kansas State held a big advantage in special teams heading into the game, but didn't see any significant tactical advantage in this area as the game progressed, although place-kicker Matthew McCrane did convert his first three field goal attempts. Then, of course, he missed the last one with the game on the line. As mentioned in the Pregame Keys, Kansas State was probably one big special teams play away from victory and that play never happened.

POSTGAME GRADE: F

I think an F is much too low of a grade for our Special Teams performance. McCrane missed a 43 yard FG that would have gave us a lead late, but really outside of that it was a pretty solid day.

McCrane made 3 other FGs and an XP.

WVU finished the day with -4 yards in punt return yardage and averaged only 19 yards per kickoff return. Their average starting field position on kick offs was the 24.4 yard line (including the kick out of bounds).

Pringle had a big kickoff return of 58 yards in the second half to set up our 3rd Quarter FG. On the day he averaged 34 yards per return.

I understand it was a loss, so grades will be tough, but overall I thought it was more of a low B/high C type of day.
