Any architects/contractors who can weigh in on this would be appreciated.
The wife and I are planning a kitchen expansion in another year or two which will blow out an exterior wall and add about a 13x17 area to the kitchen on the first floor and then a sun room on the 2nd floor.
My question is, since we're already going to have to pour a foundation for this new addition. Is it feasible to just dig down and add a basement under this new section that we can then tie into our existing basement? By tie in I believe I mean to cut a door size chunk out of the existing basement wall to allow access to the new basement.
Is that a realistic possibility? What are the major drawbacks? Any idea of the delta on cost?
TIA.
