I rarely watch CBC Sports Network, but during the tournament they have an on-going show that is kind of like the Selection Sunday shows, but is 'current'.
On today's show, they were talking about Baylor/USC and John Rothstein started talking about Frank and "the space that Frank Martin has carved out amonth CBB coaches", going on to say "he has taken both Kansas State and South Carolina to the Elite Eight. Those are not programs that are synonymous with great college basketball...".
We like to talk about our great tradition. I think we vastly overstate it - not the tradition, but the perception to anybody under 55.
It's better to have ancient tradition than no tradition, but what is the practical impact of it today? It suggests a fan base ripe for supporting the right coach, but I'm not sure what else.
