I've been thinking on this for awhile now and I'm sure you all have too. Here's my concerns with keeping Bruce He seems to be too nice a guy. He let the players walk all over him and then tried to tighten the reigns. This rarely works as people see you as weak, lose respect for you, and behavior repeats itself. I'm all for second chances, but you have to be firm when laying down the law and stick to what you preached from day 1. Consistency is important. I helped coach middle school kids and it was paramount there, tell them the rules and when they break them, there are consequences. No surprises is what I believe. They may not like the punishment, but they will respect you. Especially when they see the consistency over time. On the flip side, part of being a coach is being a psychologist. Knowing what buttons to push and when to push them. Treat everyone fair but because of player potential that doesn't mean you treat everyone the same. There are three rules everyone must abide by, be respectful, keep your grades up, and play your ass off. After that, treatment depends on potential and leadership. Your best player has to be a leader, and a good one. This was Bruce biggest flaw. He praised Marcus a little too much and let him get away with poor effort and a bad attitude. This infected the team and doomed the year before it began. Hopefully he lays down the law and gets his players to respect him. I don't have much faith. Blast away....
