I messaged Zach a few days ago immediately following his offer from Texas. He was stunned to say the least as he told me it was a scholarship opportunity he was not expecting. He said if nothing else it's nice to be a Texas kid and say he earned a Texas offer - just saying that kind of means you've made it I would assume.
As for where his head is at right now, we messaged again today about where things stand and the direction his recruitment is headed. Here was his response:
"I'm just gonna focus on my team and playoffs. Right now, I'm committed to K-State. That's where I plan on going. I'll have to think about it more in depth after the season is over though."
Taylor Braet and Charlie Dickey have been in steady contact with Shackelford all along, before and after the Texas offer. Obviously he's a must have for this class and they're doing everything in their power to keep him.
Shackelford's Belton Tigers (5-5) take on Rowlett (8-2) tomorrow night in the first round (Bidistrict) of Texas UIL playoffs.
