I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but the really frustrating thing about this entire situation, is that LHCBS and K-State are in an impossible situation. A virtual majority wants to see LHCBS make some kind of changes to his staff if he's going to remain in place over the next couple years. However, that's a damn near impossible task at this point. Not because LHCBS is someone who doesn't like making staff changes, but because what good coaching candidate is going to come work for a 78 year-old head coach who might step away at any minute? As much as I'd love to see wholesale staff changes, it's just not a realistic scenario.
That's what makes this situation incredibly frustrating. LHCBS really has little options/ability to fix what ails his program currently. So, for those of us who believe LHCBS has earned the right to work his way out of this mess, I don't know how he could legitimately do it. Recruiting is only going to get harder every year he ages. Coaches aren't going to come work for someone who might step away at any minute.
It's really unfortunate the position we are in. LHCBS, through his own doing, has put K-State in an impossible situation. I just hope, sometime soon, he realizes he can't just continue to kick the proverbial can down the road, hoping the program will straighten out and we'll all welcome Sean as a successor.
It's just amazing to me how someone who preaches selflessness in all parts of his program is doing the clear opposite, and as a result, might end up doing significant harm to the University & program he helped build.
