Asked my MU buddy about DeMontie Cross and he had this to say about him:
"He sucks, was a cancer on the team. Players didn't like him and defense was better when he left. It was surprising because he's a pretty charismatic guy. He would throw players under the bus in interviews and wasn't a good recruiter. He played for Mizzou and was good friends with Odom, so it was surprising when he got canned."
Obviously this is just one fan's opinion, but he is a diehard MU fan and a rivals subscriber, so I consider him pretty informed.
