Football My Quick Thoughts on tonight's loss...

1 - Beat themselves. With penalties. With turnovers. Silly mistakes, etc. We said going in that K-State was more talented so they'd win as long as they didn't beat themselves. Well, they didn't play as clean as they did the first two games so that did not come to fruition.

2 - Dropped passes. Stoned a handful of drives. Probably took a score or two off the board. There was one perfectly placed ball in the first half to Harris down a sideline and he had 2 steps on the CB. Could have been 6 if caught. Or at least got them into the red zone. Heath dropped a ball on last drive. Pringle dropped a few. Those really hurt.

Couldn't really keep anything else going or get anything else going consistently. Vandy could stack the box all they wanted.

3 - The roughest part about this will be that it definitely doesn't feel like Vanderbilt came in and won this game. It feels more like Kansas State lost and there's likely a lot of truth to that.

4 - Defense played terrific. Really terrific. Good sign of things to come? Perhaps. They took a big step but this is also the type of offense that is easier for them to defend. Don't have to worry about the perimeter as much.

In particular; Tanking, Goolsby, Adams, Reed, Geary, Dishon. All were great.

5 - Even missed a field goal. Few sub-par punts. A punt return for TD called back. The special teams dropped the ball in some cases as well.

6 - What's it all mean going forward? Everything they want is still in play... even as tough as that is to hear right now. It probably sounds totally unrealistic as well. But one play goes differently, and K-State wins this game and you just feel relieved you got the W and move on.

It didn't happen that way, but it has to be viewed basically the same. They can feel great about the positive steps the defense took. Know what to work on offense. And also keep in mind that the offense definitely should have scored 28-35 points in this one. They left the points on the board themselves, because of unforced errors.

It'd be worst if you left tonight thinking K-State lost because they just were not as good as Vandy. You don't think that. You think it'd be difficult to see them having that many unforced errors in any other game going forward.

May have more. Let me think.
