There was one small stretch when Barry was not on the floor. I like to think Sneed was not out there either. Not 100% sure the exact five, but I thought to myself "who the hell scores here". So it got me thinking which is a terrible thing to do for me. Looking at the box score tonight, MgGuirl (true Freshman) plays 29 minutes, Diarra (redshirt Freshman) plays 25 minutes, Wainright (redshirt Sophomore transfer) plays 11 minutes, Stockard (true Freshman) plays 7 minutes, and Mawein (redshirt Sophomore transfer) plays 19 minutes.
Not taking anything away from our team's accomplishments, but we truly had the perfect storm in this tournament. MgGuirl rarely played this year (43 minutes total until we played KU in the big 12 tourney). Wainright went stretches he never played a game. Diarra was a sub and was only playing about 12 minutes/game in the 9 games leading up to Stokes injury. Stokes is out a significant part of the year and was never the same player since. On top of it all we play the tournament without our All big 12 player Dean Wade.
It all just truly amazes me. The lack of experience factor for the whole team coming into the year let alone the tournament is pretty significant. I just look back on this season and this tourney in particular and wonder "how the hell". Honestly our tallest guy on the floor at one point vs Kentucky was Diarra. That alone tells you the grit of this team. And they didn't quit tonight. Pretty proud of these guys.
