I'm afraid this could go sideways quick. But I'm just curious what people think here.
Let's say we lose out (not a huge "what if", unfortunately) and you're going to have a tough conversation with Bruce. You've already decided he's sticking around and the donors are on board. Also, this year clearly isn't acceptable. Great.
Is that it? Are there specific, clear conditions on next year? For instance, is "NIT or Bust" a reasonable expectation when we're really selling out on the future (7 of 12 at least will be Freshman/Sophomores, and nearly all highly recruited prospects)? Or is it more an expectation of growth that's less objective?
Do you demand a change in assistants? For me, I think this is weird; I think if you give a coach another year, unless it's for disciplinary reasons, you don't say "I need you to succeed but I also refuse to let you keep the guys you think can help you do it".
We know Bruce is clean. We know his players (mostly) like him. We know he will represent the team's image well (he's not a badass, but he won't be caught with a dead hooker in his car) so these "character-based" things aren't a part of the conversation.
Anyway, be Gene. Vote. And PLEASE, I'm tired of hearing how terrible Bruce is and needs to be fired now. Please don't turn this into that. I'd just like to see how others would handle the AD hat within these constructs.
