I have about as little knowledge of how TV and streaming entities go about bidding for conference rights as anyone anywhere, and honestly just had to Google some of the info about a couple of the major broadcast networks (CBS deal with SEC runs out after '23, unless ESPN/ABC buys it out sooner, NBC deal with NHL runs out after this coming season).
My questions come about due to us now in a fight with Disney, over whether they orchestrated all of this as a partial way to destroy the remaining 8 and make their future SEC deal as big an advertising-for-them boon, as it can possibly get. So are we getting ANY kind of offer from them once this goes up for bid? And is FOX now committed even moreso to propping up what it has with the BIG, and unwilling to even be a partner, like they are now?
In those cases, could NBC and their Peacock streaming maybe want this kind of sports content, to enhance what they have with Notre Dame? New Big 12 games could lead in and follow ND games, on those occasions when NBC gets to show ND home games, and fill up their time around golf, on those Saturdays when ND is playing road games. I know they're dropping NBCSN at some point, with no NHL anymore, but maybe they want to dive in big-time in the streaming market, by putting games on Peacock, and then have the cable option of USA Network, where some of the NBCSN stuff is headed.
And then you have CBS. I realize they didn't want to come anywhere close to what DIsney offered for the SEC, for after '23, but could they want to still have a national game each week, with the re-imagined Big 12, and us be a more affordable option for them? They could then have better offerings, too, on CBS Sports Network with this, where now don't they just have Mountain West and Conference USA?
