At the 1/3 mark of the season it appears to me we have a number of 3's and a couple of 5's. Clearly there is no ace, and I cannot make a case for a number 2. Ventura is unreliable and continues to look like an immature pitcher to me. If he had better location command he might have the ability to be a number 2, but after X number of years in the majors I question if that will happen. I thought Volquez could make a case for a 2, but that isn't panning out, and although Kennedy seems to have more professional command of his pitches he is getting hit consistently.
Just curious what other's assessment and long term outlook might be. I can't see this current starting staff competing with the best teams in baseball this year. What say you?
