This is pretty unsophisticated compared to Nelly and Fan, but here goes...
OSU and WVU were evenly matched. OSU had basically two plays that won the game--a 66 yd scoop and score on D, and a 70 yd run. A last minute garbage time TD inflated the final score. The rest of the time both teams wallowed between the 20s and really didn't show much.
WVU's D is tough to move the ball on, period.
On offense, I saw some things about Doege that encourages me. 90% of his throws were slants, and it's the only throw he looks comfortable with. His few deep throws were rainbows and not really close to the receiver. I think he goes deep looking for PI. All the slants are on play action and designed to let the receiver catch and try to take it to the house. Much different than our guys squatting on seams.
The slant throws don't give Doege time to look off coverage, or even look at coverage. I think a 3 LB look would work well both against the run and slants. I'd drop one in coverage to spy the slot receiver/wr breaking across from the wide side. Perfect opportunity to not be seen by Doege and to light up the wr or step in front for the pick.
Doege only ran out of necessity and was a timid runner. Their RB Brown is very good, and breaks lots of tackles for big yards after contact. But they wear him out. Seemed like he toted about a hundred times.
We will not score much, so we can't let them have the big play.
