It'll be interesting if Self uses a junk defense (triangle and 2) on Monday vs. Barry and Dean. He likes to use them on occasion such as back when we had Beasley and Walker. if he does, X and Cartier will have opportunities (make the younger guys hit shots, or when Wainright is on the floor). I wouldn't expect him to use it all game, maybe for a couple possessions.
I equate using junk defenses similar to Kruger's Hack a Doke strategy. It's an extreme strategy to take that can send a message to your team that they're not good enough to beat them using their normal game plan.If KU fans are upset with Kruger for that, they can't embrace Self's junk Ds. For the record, I'm in favor of either strategy at this level to win the damn game.
I heard Jared Sutton on the radio equate it to a high school team that holds the ball with no intention of shooting because there is no shot clock. I'm totally in favor of a high school shot clock for this reason alone.
