TCCATS summed up observations from the open practice very well, and I forgot to post this...
I tried to chat up the players a much as I could doing autograph rounds. I started bringing up a how we had some talented newcomers making an impact, and asked who we should keep an eye out for to possibly play in the fall from the incoming class.
Summing up what over a dozen players told me... keep an eye on: Wyatt Hubert, Chaz Taylor, Gervarrius Owens, DJ Render, Been Adler, and Drew Wiley...
Most of these are obvious and we may have already been aware of but thought I'd share anyway...
The surprise to me was Drew Wiley. One player even offered that Drew Wiley was already set at #2 for DT.
Take it for what it's worth.
Also, a couple things I found funny from the day...
Guy in front of me told Bill he had driven 1,500 miles to Palo Alto to support the Cat's last year. Without batting an eye Bill replied, well I might owe you some money back for that game, they way we played... Ha!
And the guy behind me had Bill autograph a Nike Cortez shoe. Thought that was clever and funny...
Collin Klein had an autograph line as long as Jesse Ertz... I told him his line was just as long now as it was in 2012! He chuckled and said it was crazy but enjoyed meeting the fans. He loves being back in Manhattan and is really looking forward to the season.
Chatted with coach Coleman about his Copper bowl season and how I considered him to be the original return man. He told me tell Heath and Pringle about it, 'cause they don't listen to me'. I caught them together and brought it up and they got a huge laugh about it. The both said he reminds them about it all the time. I told them, well at least he's humble about it... And they busted a gut laughing.
I always enjoy FAD, but I REALLY enjoyed chatting with all the coaches and players this year.
Risner, Reed, Hubert, Pringle, Heath, Ertz, Geary, Taylor, Barns, Goolsby, and on and on. So fun to BS with... Such good people in the program that are just a joy to be around. I hope they have a great year.
