-Barry Brown named semi finalist for national def POY, how good is he? You could tell when he was a frosh that he had that knack....angles....anticipation to get hands on passes. He studies a ton. Along with effort and athleticism. He takes pride in it. Add all those together, and then being a four year experienced starter, you have a great defender.
-How about injuries? If they can replicate what they did at WVU, they'll be fine. If Dean can go at less than 100%, it'll still be so valuable having him in there. You can still run offense through him....shoot, pass, high-low, all that without having foot 100%. Even without being quite as explosive, he'll really help team. So what if he can't dunk, etc....his game is so much more that that.
-Same with Stokes. You can do things as coach to help protect him. He doesn't have to guard best player and he basically shoots a set shot.
-So, even if this is all we get from Wade and Stokes from here on out, I think K-State will be fine. Hopefully they'll heal up a little and bring even more.
-Will K-State be focused Saturday with Big Monday around the corner? I think they'll be fine. It's Saturday afternoon, campus will be on fire. Team is upperclassman. But, last week was supposed to be the same. So, they have something prove.
Jesse Newell (KC Star) - KU recap, since Big Monday is right around the corner
-Barry Brown named semi finalist for national defensive POY, along with the TT player...who's the better defensive team and player? TT probably better defensive team. Haven't seen enough of them individually.
-We are going to go through a huge range of emotions the next few days....from KU's going to win it again if they go 2-0 to the streak is going to end if 0-2.
-Do you feel the team is more confident after winning at TCU? Did they turn the corner on the road? I think so. You could see it after the game with the celebration and they what they said after the game. If they would of blown that lead, it would of been a killer....but now they have a different mindset.
-Having said all that, it still might not matter against TT. They are on a tear ever since that fiasco at Allen FH. But yes, if it's tight down the stretch, they'll have more confidence.
-How has Beard been able to do this? He's really good.....so good he might not be at TT very long if he doesn't want to be. He has a very clear picture of what he wants to do defensively. He gets under-recruited, but very long and athletic kids without maybe a position. Gets them to buy in defensively.
-What about Marcus Garrett? It's been predicable with how schedule has set up. He'll give it a go tomorrow. Even if not 100%, this is the situation you give it a go.
-Prediction for tomorrow night? Well, it's same situation as last year....slight underdog late in season with title on the line. But, I like TT in this one.
