Today, the KSU administration nixed the online chat with Dr. Frank Tracz that was to be hosted by The Collegian. The chat was to answer questions about the halftime show's supposedly 'indecent' prank on KU.
Dr. Tracz has been directed to report to a meeting with the President and AD Currie tomorrow at 2 pm.
Meanwhile, the silliness and crude comments about the band's halftime show continue unabated, and the poor and easily-offended folks at the Pile of Rocks on the Kaw are keeping the pot stirred.
Enough!
Folks, this is the Sudler Season for The Pride of Wildcat Land ... the season marking its recognition as the best collegiate band in America.
You cannot ... can NOT ... imagine the amount of hard work, the long hours, the sweat and tears that decades of band members and staff have invested in winning the Sudler Trophy and representing K-State so admirably.
And now ... because some amused observers 'saw' what was not there and decided to help their interpretations go viral ... The Pride has derision and condemnation being heaped upon it. A good amount of the condemnation appears to be coming from KU supporters who (a) didn't see the show, (b) didn't hear the announcer's description of the formations and (c) couldn't be objective if their lives depended on it.
Unfortunately, some of the pot-stirring is of our own making. However unintentional the 'funny' observations and comments on social media may be, they're being picked up and used against the K-State band and our university greedily and as further proof that 'pornography' was intended.
As I said, enough!
No one ... no one ... who knows Dr. Frank Tracz or who even has the slightest clue about the dedication and pride of our band thinks they intended to dishonor our university. It's time to get that message out.
You can help do that by sending a quick - and polite, thank you! - email to kirks at k-state.edu and currie at k-state.edu telling those two gentlemen that you fully understand what the band intended and that you support Dr. Tracz and all the men and women of The Pride.
Second, you can reach out to the students of The Pride who you know and to ftracz at k-state.edu and tell them how proud we are of them and of their Sudler Season.
Enough silliness. Enough apologizing for something that never happened.
It's time for the family to be heard.
