That was ugly. Back to blowout losses to go along with the bad basketball. Only 41 points scored for K-State. It feels like much longer than just a week ago when K-State was competing with Texas down to the final buzzer. In this one, the second half was just awful for K-State. It was bad for both teams in the first half since the Jayhawks couldn't get much going on offense but they still pushed out to a nine point lead at half. It was decent defense for this group in the first, but still not great. The defense crumbled along with everything else in the second half. Cats made a few runs early in the second but about midway through the final frame everything crumbled for K-State. They couldn't hit open shots and turned it over too many times and Kansas capitalized. Kansas turned it over a bunch too but K-State couldn't capitalize.

I would put more blame on the refs. The free throw and foul discrepancy between the two teams is glaring, but that is what happens when K-State continues to try to take outside jumpers even when they are missing. Kansas missed shots but instead of trying to take them over and over again they tried getting into the lane and attack the basket. They also got out on more fast breaks. So it was easy to see why the discrepancy was the way it was.

Besides Nijel Pack's ability to set teammates up, DaJuan Gordon was the only bright spot on offense. He came off the bench and was an instant spark. He still cannot hit outside shots. No one else could get anything going. Here's some shooting numbers from some of these guys...Mike McGuirl: 0-11, 0-6 3pt....Selton Miguel: 0-5.....Pack: 3-12, 0-7 3pt....Bradford: 1-2...

Kansas got 29 points off turnovers.

Rebounding battle: 36-35 K-State

Bench points: 24-12 K-State

Points in the paint: 32-20 KU

Overall this game doesn't look good for K-State at all. Even if a lot of the blame for the blowout is for not making shots, it still isn't a good look. It is at the point of the season guys need to start hitting their open shots at least at a decent clip but the fact is outside of Nijel Pack, no one else can be trusted to shoot it efficiently/consistently from the perimeter. If it continues it will be another ugly one in Fort Worth on Saturday if indeed the game is played as scheduled. That is 13 straight losses and after three decent games for 2020-21 K-State basketball standards they dip back down to taking a giant hit on the chin against KU in Bramlage. This will be a serious gut check. If they can't dust themselves off after this one we could see another slew of blowouts to go along with the ugly basketball.
