Why are all umps and referees protected from criticism? What makes them so special that they are such a protected group? If they do a bad job they should have to defend it...just like everyone else.
Some may say it is about the integrity of the game. I think that argument is a bit melodramatic...and not based in truth...but feeds more into this line of untouchable status for the special unps.
Even the great ben zobrist recently said that it may be time for the lazer strike zone in some instances.
Why do umps get to throw a guy out of the game, which can have a major impact, all because of a look or the wrong word?
I guess for a long time i thought it was just good sportsmanship to not criticize the refs and the coaches and players recognized that generally with even very soft comments when warranted. But now it appears the unps believe they are special and "untouchable" from criticis.
We have seen a number of cats games change based on a poor ref call (dont even mention allen fieldhouse) ...why is that accepted?
