So turn 50 next month. About To go in for a colonoscopy. At least 2 people in the waiting room have ksu logo items on.
The prep fluid was awful
Be brave young lad. You are smart for having the procedure done. Some men never have the exam & in the case of my father end up having colon cancer. Had he a different mindset he may have lived a hell of a lot longer. I have to have the colonoscopy & endoscopy (Barrett's Cancer candidate) at the same time every 3-4 years. My point is early detection means they can help you and in the lion's share of cases save you.
Some advice especially for the young men reading this. Always have a meal or eat some sort of food before drinking alcohol. At least this will help protect your stomach lining & not make you become so drunk so quickly. Never eat anything 3 hours before you go to bed. If you do try to sleep with your body somewhat elevated to prevent acid reflux to protect your esophagus from acid damage. If you do have heartburn or acid reflux I highly recommend an over the counter acid blocker. I'm not trying to be a Mr. Know it all, just some friendly smart advice I wish I had bad in the 60s, 70s & 80s during my heavy drinking years.
I was also a heavy smoker back in the day. I quit cold turkey in 1994. I thought I'd be the last person on the planet ever to quit, but first and foremost you have to want to quit. IMO patches & gum are B.S. because the object is getting ALL the nicotine out, not putting more back in. The key is to have a passifyer to replace the ongoing need to have a cigarette in your mouth. For me I chewed on CINNAMON STICKS for 2 months until I got all of the nicotine out. You feel so much better, your senses return, your lungs make you feel like a new man, not so tired, and most importantly I could breathe so much better than I was. Quitting was the smartest thing I ever did for my body.
When I was a young man most people did smoke, so there was no one to really support or help me. If even I can help one person it would make me feel like what I know was worth passing down. Yet with all the preventative things I've done to help myself I'm still not out of the woods, but at least I'm fighting to stay alive.
Protect your body. Don't abuse it like I did. You will have a much longer, healthier life.
If I knew way back then of what I know now I would have never put a cigarette in my mouth or abuse myself with excessive alcohol.
Sorry I got a tad bit off the subject, but preventive things like a colonoscopy are important.
I wouldn't wait until 50 though. I'd have the first one once your turn 40.
