Out West
1) Clemson 12-1 (ACC champ)
vs.
8) UCF 12-0 (at-large)

4) Alabama 11-1 (at-large)
vs.
5) Ohio State 11-2 (Big 10 champ)

3) Georgia 12-1 (SEC champ)
vs.
6) Wisconsin 12-1 (at-large)

2) Oklahoma 12-1 (Big 12 champ)
vs.
7) USC 11-2 (Pac-12 champ)

Playoff begins with all lower seeds getting home games. Then after round 1, playoff proceeds like it does now, winners advance to Rose and Sugar bowls. Round 1 losers are selected to their respective bowl games.

This is the way to do it. Would be fun for everyone and definitely makes more sense to include all power 5 champs and 3 at large bids is just right.
