I remember reading about one of Donald Trump's Atlantic City Bankruptcies that he owed so much to the banks that it was less expensive for them to just ride it out. There is plenty of blame to go around on Puerto Rico's financial calamity. The people of Puerto Rico repeatedly voted NOT to become the 51st state of the United States. The United States Government KNEW Puerto Rico, just like Illinois today, was headed into financial ruin.
So what do we do now? It sounds like half of the island is either moved or getting ready to move to Florida.
This and all the bankrupt California and Illinois municipalities will be used as examples of why Social Security should not be privatized.
