My boss and I drove from Kansas City to attend a co-worker's wedding outside of Garden City this past weekend. The wedding venue was a small barn in a field miles from town. The reception was in a shed across from the barn. Up until last week, the wedding party did not know that both venues lacked air conditioning. It was 99 degrees on Saturday, and there were about 60 people crammed into the tiny barn with no airflow for a 45 minute ceremony. It was so hot that the groom walked outside and puked immediately following their exit.

At the wedding reception, everyone ate before the wedding party entered and sat around awkwardly waiting for the wedding party to be announced. There were three dances: the couple's first dance, the father-daughter dance, and the mother-son dance. The DJ was playing pop/rap music in an obviously country setting. Kids knocked over a door that was leaning against the wall of the shed and nearly knocked the cake off the table.

It was obvious enough that we weren't from around there that nearly everyone came up to us and said "You must be the groom's co-workers from Kansas City!" My boss and I, after driving over 6 hours, left the reception before 7pm and headed to the casino in Dodge, where I promptly lost $20 and called it a day.
