K-State WBB ranked No. 13 in opening AP Top 25 poll

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State women’s basketball will enter the 2024-25 season ranked among the preseason Associated Press (AP) women’s basketball top-25, as the Wildcats open the season ranked 13th.

The Wildcats, who were voted as the Big 12 favorites in the preseason Big 12 Coaches poll, are ranked in the preseason AP poll for the fourth time in program history and the first time since 2004-05. This was K-State’s highest preseason AP ranking since opening the 2003-04 season ranked fifth.

K-State ended the 2023-24 season ranked 19th in the final AP poll after beginning the season unranked. The Wildcats were ranked for 19 consecutive weeks in both the AP and Coaches polls to conclude the 2023-24 season.

The Wildcats were joined in the preseason AP poll by three Big 12 members – Iowa State at eighth, Baylor at 12th and West Virginia at 16th. K-State’s non-conference opponent, Creighton, is ranked 21st.

My odd ramblings about the Colorado game

(1) I'm tired of hearing about CU excuses surrounding the loss of their receivers. Sure, Horn and Hunter are studs. But what is lost on just about everyone was that KSU was down at least 2 of their top DBs. That number grew to as large as 4 DBs during the third quarter. KSU had to change the defense alignment and the play nearly the entire second half with backup players. My contention is that CU backup receivers are studs. KSU had to change their ENTIRE defensive backfield strategy due to the NUMBERS of DBs available. The ability for this group of coaches and players to come together is quite impressive. So please, stop with this narrative.

(2) Te'Quan Roberson looked really good on an important drive for KSU. I feel much better about KSU chances if AJ needs to go out of the game.

(3) Although the environment was electric in Boulder, CU fans are still a bunch of jackasses. The booing of injured players has no place in athletics.

(3a) Found it quite enjoyable that CU fans and even some CU coaches cheered DJ Giddens being stopped at the goal line. THey didn't realize that KSU got a first down on the play and now had 4 chances to punch it in.

(4) SHADUER SANDERS IS THE BEST QB IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL. Even with him playing a great game, KSU was able to win. CU may not lose another game if they play like last night. The question is IF CU can play like that every weekend (I have my doubts). I think that CU invested quite a lot into winning this game.

(5) The non-call on the last CU offensive play could have gone either way. Personally, I didn't think it was PI. Regardless, that call did not defeat CU. It was their lack of play by their O and D lines.

(6) This game reminded me of the CU-KSU game from 1995. Only 2024 the roles were switched. In 1995, CU had a 3 point lead with about 5 minutes to go. KSU had a good TD drive and took a 17-13 lead with about 2 minutes to go. CU came up with a quick TD drive to retake the lead with about a minute left. CU then intercepted the ball and scored another TD late. I remember how much this game hurt. As my friend said, the final atmosphere felt like a funeral after being so high.

(6a) I think this game is karma for CU and Newiesel for singing about KSU after that game. Eat it CU!
