I've been reading the discussions about how Coach Snyder, for example, must dislike adding more non-conference Power 5 games to the schedule at the expense of the games against powderpuffs.
I have heard the chatter about each team wanting to schedule strong to make them look more appealing to the playoff committee.
I am not convinced that every team that has been adding more P5 non-conference matchups is seeing the remote chance of a playoff berth outweighing the increased chance of an extra defeat.
What if this is part of a broader plan?
Are the head honchos of the P5 conferences and possibly even the TV and bowl game executives just trying to reduce or eliminate the matchups like Memphis vs. Mississippi in order to try to make the non P5 teams less relevant in a future playoff scenario?
It would make sense to me to avoid playing those non-P5 games if one wanted to increase the odds of an undefeated non-P5 team getting frozen out of the playoff or increase the TV ratings of the matchups.
