do you remember the following? the 3 foot lane, taking the ball out of bounds under your offensive basket and last but not least. not having to start a free throw from within the foul line? the rule was you just had to release the throw before you stepped down on the other side of the line. these were practices prior to thr 1956 season as the rules were changed in the off season after 55 . How did that happen?
Tex winter observed a KU freshman game, frosh couldn`t play then,in which Wilt took off from near mid court during a free throw and dribbled to the foul line, jumped towards the basket and stuffed the ball. Subsequently, on an out of bounds play under his basket he jumped over the basket received a pass over the backboard and stuffed the ball. During the rest of the game he camped out near the 3 foot lane and dominated the game both on offense and defense.
I am not sure Tex was on the rules committee at that time, but, he was instrumental in getting these rules changed. these changes probably should have been called the Wilt Chamberlain rules!
