Football Recruiting Gavin Potter to KU

This picture is cringe worthy and screams DOUCHE. By this picture alone you can tell he is one cocky SOB. I mean what kind of high school kid takes a picture of himself with his shirt off with girls to announce his commitment on social media? He may be a gifted athlete but my guess his arrogance would have never worked for Snyder or CK. This kid can kick rocks as far as i am concerned. (i would say worse things but am trying to adult here)

I am so very happy that he signed with KU. If K-State was in no way involved I would still call this kid a douche. Pathetic. The Big 12 will enjoy kicking this kid around.

What I find hilarious is that it's not like this cat is a 5 star that was choosing between Alabama and Ohio State. He's an above average prospect who literally made a production around picking to play for the most hapless football program in the Big12 that hadn't won a road game in 9 years.

I know it wasn't directed at me but I will reply by saying the only people that have any concern about this have some connection to his first couple layers of clothing.
Let me be more succinct.

Broken Arrow is a well known program. They send kids to schools all over, and regularly, Big 12 schools. It is in the coaches' interest to make sure they cultivate good relationships with schools, especially in the Big 12 footprint, to make sure that all of their kids have a shot at a free education.

Now, Klieman and Wells may not give a shit. That's fine. However, if I'm a coach in the Broken Arrow program, I'm cringing a bit because Jason Ray, Klieman, etc. may bring it up the next time they stop by. And I'm not sure, if I'm the head coach of a high profile HS program, if I want my players to behave that way.

Call me a stiff, or butthurt, or whatever. It's not that. It's about showing respect to the people who spent a lot of time, energy, and money recruiting you. If someone spent a lot of time and effort, traveling, away from their families, and came to my living room for a personal visit, I would never let my kid behave that way. If I'm a coach, I wouldn't let a kid announce like that in my school.

If he wants to do a Twitter video or whatever, fine. You can't control that. But I'm just saying that it's not something that looks good. Most people are looking at that, outside of KSU and Tech fans, and thinking, "That's kind of weird."

Well put.

Easy answer for his coach "It's his choice".

Problem solved.

You think his coaches think that reflects well on him and the program?
To all those that think this is so harmless, it would mortify me as a coach and parent to have my kid troll other programs that put an enormous amount of time and energy into the recruitment of my kid, inviting them to camps, helping them on their techniques, paying for their visits...only to have the kid give them a big FU CK YOU on signing day. I don't mind him picking KU, trolling us and TT is unacceptable. Maybe try to have some class and show some respect to the coaches that believed in you.

I absolutely hate it when people say 'we didn't want him anyway' when they sign elsewhere.

.
But.....this kid is the exception. I never saw the upside on film and he is quite the dbag.
Agreed on all of this. I hate it when people get sour grapes too but I never saw the attraction here. He does have some athletic ability on tape but his strong preference for arm tackling was a major red flag for me. He’s not doing that because he doesn’t know how to tackle properly, he’s doing it because he’s not willing to be physical on every down. Better coaching isn’t going to suddenly change that, and he’s already had access to good coaching where he’s at anyway. Chris Patterson’s film showed the same stuff, we all just missed it at the time because the athletic ability was so eye-popping.

The heel turn today is whatever. I kinda chuckled TBH, probably because I was hoping he’d go elsewhere and don’t really care where or how he did it.

If not for the school we would have moved on a long time ago.

Meh. Kid who's going to pull that is better off at KU. We'll see if it's funny when he goes 0-4 against the Cats during his career.

don't think any high school wants to see his players trolling colleges.

if you feel differently, you are over-thinking it.
Key word high-school...

It's not the coaches job to be a d1 placement coach...

The only ones overthinking this are you guys...

I'm just surprised that people think this is perfectly fine behavior.

My dad would have whipped my ass and refused to be at the table with me if I pulled that after hosting those schools in my home.

But, to each their own.
My thought was if he wanted to flip, fine..just do it. Be smart about it and do it in a way that doesnt bring negative attention to yourself. But to each their own.

Kid is absolutely getting roasted on social media. On Barstool sports everyone is calling him your typical brad/chad and laughing about his American eagle undies and the fact he’s making a mass production to go to a school that’s 18-90 since 2010. My favorite was “you knew what was coming the way both father and son were chewing gum “ what an ass!!!!

Walked in with a K-State hoodie on and picked KU. Quite the heel turn.

Now I can say what I have REALLY been thinking all along--what a ****ing tool--not because he chose another school. Rather, because of the way he handled the entire recruiting process, and, frankly, that he (and his family) are willing to hitch their wagon to a incoherent madman like Less Miles.

I've had no concern about whether he chose K-State for a long time...but at this point, since he is taking the low road (and frankly, always has), if he ever sees the field against K-State, I hope he gets some unfriendly reminders of his doucheyness.

Also, that's not a good look for the Broken Arrow staff, either. If I were his coaches, I'd be PISSED.

No doubt. But I have a feeling this isn't the first time he has left them shaking their heads...

...btw, most people as accomplished as him don't have to tell everyone they were "2x state wrestling champ, all-state LB." But, apparently, he needs to make sure his twitter followers know (the one and only time I followed a link posted here to his twitter feed).

I think this is a kid who let the recruiting process go to his head... in a big way.

I didn't see that you offered a reaction to his little trick. It seems unseemly. Any thoughts that you would care to offer, Derek?

I don't think we're missing out on much. He looks like he'd like to speak to a manager.

I think what’s clear now about his little detour after his official visit to Manhattan is that he absolutely went straight to KU and expressely lied about not being in Lawrence. His parents completely culpable then and again today about a serious lapse of judgement of their son.

I have no problem with a chip on your shoulder, revenge attitude but to castigate K-State, TT and OU/OSU (as you go to KU) on your national signing is symptomatic of some other problem/issue.

Most importantly for Les, this kid’s remarkable punk-ass attitude won’t be synergistic with a bad, low quality program like KU.

You may get away with that at OU or Ohio State, where the coaches and team leaders will crush you if you don’t back it up on the field. However, KU is a long way from having that level of credible checks and balances.

So turn it around and say if we just pulled his scholarship on Signing Day, and we tried to go by the old “it was our choice” line to their coaches the next time we recruited one of his players, do you think that would work very well?

There are decommitments all the time, but this was beyond that and turned into a show of disrespect to the school he was “committed” to for a long time. It certainly doesn’t reflect well on his program and you can bet that our coaches will remember. And his coaches should feel pretty embarrassed about how it was handled. It wasn’t just an ordinary decommitment and switch to a different school. It wasn’t a good move in terms of relationships with an area college coaching staff.

Is this a serious question? Surely you can tell the difference, right?

He's a little boy with little boy thoughts, tbh. And this is coming from a retired journalist. He's immature. I seriously doubt he succeeds at KU. Nothing to make of this

Yep. Serious question. Recruiting is all about relationships and if a program gets disrespected the way we did, it damages relationships. What’s hard to figure out about that? Just like if we pulled his scholarship on Signing Day...it would damage the relationship. It’s called an analogy.
