Berry Tramel had a pretty good interview on Finebaum about the realignment news and provided some pretty interesting perspectives I thought including from perspective of Oklahoma State.

The most interesting part to me though was Tramel talking about back when Kevin Weiberg was commissioner and wanting to implement a big 12 network. Needed 9 votes, only got 8. No votes were nubbs, a&m, texas, and OU.

then Texas gets the massive LHN deal and instability ensued.

It’s wild to think about what the last 13 years would’ve been like had we actually stuck together and been innovative as a conference. Being the first to get a conference network established would’ve been huge. At the time, the big 12 arguably was the best football conference then and for the previous 10 or so years. Sure the big 12 north was sliding back a bit but the league as a whole garnered major respect and didn’t take a backseat to anyone.

Instead after the network vote fails Weiberg leaves for the big ten and establishes the big ten network which along with the SEC network were gigantic moneymakers and catalysts for the BIG and SEC to separate themselves from the rest. Oh what could’ve been...
