PAC demise
If the rumor is true, a professor from Stanford estimated the PAC value at $45 million after USC and UCLA left. Also rumored was the PAC presidents insisted George K. demand $50 million as a starting point. Fox immediately bailed. ESPN countered with $31M (just like the Big 12). That is when the PAC asked for $45M. This convinced ESPN to drop the PAC tier I rights and only offer $9 million for Tier II. For the next year, the PAC kept kicking the can down the road in hopes of a bigger payout. It didn't happen. From this it was pretty obvious that the end result was what happened. The four schools in danger of being left out were Wash. St, Ore. St, Stanford, and Cal. With the theatrics from ASU in the last 24 hours they put themselves at risk also. The elitist PAC presidents killed the PAC--not ESPN.
PAC going forward
I think neither Stanford or Cal will end up joining the ACC. It makes no sense. Most probable scenario is that all four PAC schools join the MWC and rename the conference the PAC with a 3 year grant of rights. I personally am really hoping that Stanford and Cal are delegated to the MWC.
ACC
The ACC is on the clock. FSU, Clemson, and UNC (and NCST) have roving eyes. It is only a matter of time before they leave. This is the reason they are voting no against Calford. And if they leave, what does Miami, Louisville, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Duke and Pitt do? The question is whether the remaining schools are attractive enough to garner a competitive contract. The schools in danger of being left out are Syracuse, BC, WF, Ga Tech.
UTAH
Thought it was interesting that Kyle Whittingham (Ute coach) made the comment implying that Utah may move again on the next round of realignment. Sorry Kyle, Utah isn't going to the BIG and I think that the current members of the Big 12 are pretty much melded together for the foreseeable future.
